Best and Cheapest Time to Move in Metro Vancouver
The cheapest and easiest time to move in Metro Vancouver is usually mid-month, midweek and outside summer. A weekday morning in spring or fall suits most people. Month-end, Fridays, long weekends and summer fill up first, so book early if you cannot move off-peak.

When is the best time to move in Metro Vancouver?
There is no single best date, but these choices make a move cheaper, easier to book and less stressful.
Best day of the week
Tuesday to Thursday. Elevators, loading zones and crews are easier to book, and your strata office or landlord is available if something comes up.
Best time of the month
Mid-month, roughly the 8th to the 22nd. The last and first days of the month are busiest because many tenancies end then.
Best time of day
Start in the morning. You get daylight for the whole move and a buffer for delays, and you avoid the worst afternoon traffic on busy routes.
Best season
Spring and early fall balance workable weather with good availability. Winter has the lowest demand but more rain, and summer has the best weather and the highest demand.
When is it busiest and hardest to book?
These are the periods that fill up first.
- The last and first few days of any month.
- Fridays and weekends, especially for condo moves where elevator slots are limited.
- Summer, from June to August, and the weeks around school holidays.
- Long weekends, including Victoria Day, Canada Day, BC Day and Labour Day. Some stratas do not allow moves on statutory holidays.
Does the date change what I pay?
On an hourly move, the calendar does not change how many hours your job takes. It changes whether you can get the crew, the truck and the elevator you want. Some companies charge more at peak times, so ask whether your quote changes with the date.
How does Metro Vancouver weather affect a move?
Rainy season
Rain is most frequent from about October through March. Expect wet driveways and lobbies, ask about covered loading and keep boxes off wet ground.
Summer heat
Hot afternoons are hard on crews, plants, electronics and anything that can melt. Start early and keep water on hand.
Occasional snow and ice
Snow is not common in Surrey, but a cold snap can make steep driveways and hillside streets slippery. Tell your mover about slopes, as in White Rock or on Burnaby Mountain.
Timing a move between rentals
Many BC tenancies end at month-end, so rental moves cluster on the same few days. If your old and new dates do not line up, storage can bridge the gap. Remember that on your last day you must be out by 1 p.m. unless you agree otherwise. Our renters' move-out guide covers notice, the inspection and your deposit.
How to move for less, whatever the date
- Choose a weekday and avoid month-end if your dates are flexible.
- Pack, seal and label boxes ahead so the crew spends fewer billable hours.
- Book the strata elevator or loading zone first, then book movers around it.
- Make sure the truck can park close to the door at both addresses.
- Ask what is open if your preferred date is already booked. A day earlier or later can make the difference.
How far ahead should I book?
Book 2 to 4 weeks ahead, and earlier for month-end, weekends and summer. Short-notice moves are sometimes possible, so call to check. Start with the strata elevator if you have one, then lock in your crew. Our moving checklist lays out the timeline week by week, and the pricing page shows how hourly billing works.

Common questions
What is the cheapest month to move in Metro Vancouver?
Winter months outside the holiday weeks usually have the lowest demand, which gives you the most choice of dates. On an hourly move your cost still depends mostly on how long the job takes.
Is it cheaper to move on a weekday?
Often. Weekdays are easier to book, elevators and parking are less contested and your crew is less likely to be pushed for time. Ask whether your quote changes by day.
What is the worst day to move?
The last day of the month, a Friday or a long weekend. These are the busiest, and some stratas restrict moves on holidays.
Can I move in the rain in Metro Vancouver?
Yes. Movers work in the rain. Tell your mover about covered loading and wet access, and protect boxes and furniture from the weather.
How far ahead should I book movers?
2 to 4 weeks ahead, and earlier for month-end, weekends and summer.
